Tips and Methods for Choosing a Phone Case

2024-01-27 21:03

As a heavy enthusiast of mobile phones, I am known as a “phone case enthusiast” because for every phone I own, even if it’s only for a few months, I accumulate more than ten phone cases. Therefore, I have a say in the quality of each phone case experience. As a professional phone case factory, I would like to share my recommendations with everyone in the hope of helping you choose the right phone case.

Tips and Methods for Choosing a Phone Case-1

Phone cases can be roughly divided into “soft cases” and “hard cases” based on material, and they can be classified as “full coverage,” “half coverage,” or “edge-only coverage” based on their wrapping style. The purpose of buying a phone case is complex and includes, but is not limited to, protecting the phone, beautifying the phone, and enhancing comfort. Therefore, before buying a phone case, you must first understand your main objective.

This article will focus on individual needs and recommend the most suitable phone case based on my personal experience.

First: Core requirement is to maintain the original appearance of the phone.

There are not many choices available for this requirement. You can only select a fully transparent case, usually made of silicone material, which comes in both soft and hard variants. The prices range from a few yuan to several hundred yuan. Soft cases are thicker and provide better protection for the phone, but the grip is poorer, especially for sweaty hands, making it difficult to hold. Over time, they may deform. A few yuan can buy a soft case, but it may turn yellow easily. However, high-quality brands like Apple’s official cases, which cost several hundred yuan, won’t turn yellow. Hard cases offer slightly weaker protection and are less resistant to drops, but they provide better grip. Hard cases generally don’t turn yellow, and the price difference mainly reflects the difference in grip. A good-quality hard case fits tightly on the phone, doesn’t loosen over time, and provides a rounded and comfortable grip.

Buying recommendation: Choose a hard case if you prioritize grip, and choose a soft case if you want better protection for your phone. If you’re not wealthy, a few yuan is sufficient; however, if you are affluent, I recommend buying a branded original case. I’ve used a certain brand’s case priced at over 100 yuan, and the grip was excellent. I’ve seen many reviews, and it should be considered the best clear hard case. I won’t mention the specific brand here to avoid being seen as advertising. One thing to note is that so-called matte transparent cases cannot fully restore the original appearance of the phone, so be cautious when purchasing.

Second: Core requirement is to provide the best protection for the phone.

There are many options available for this requirement, such as silicone cases, genuine leather (or faux leather) cases, and carbon fiber (kevlar) cases. Silicone cases are lightweight but have poorer grip and texture. Genuine leather (or faux leather) cases have excellent texture and comfortable grip but are thick and more expensive. Carbon fiber (kevlar) cases are thin, lightweight, have appropriate friction resistance, and provide comfort. However, they have limited styles and are expensive.

Third: Core requirement is to restore the feel of a naked phone.

If you want to protect your phone without adding burden to your hand, I recommend choosing a reputable and relatively slim plastic (silicone) hard case, carbon fiber (kevlar) case, or an edge-only case. Why do I recommend edge-only cases? Based on my experience, the most vulnerable part of a phone when it falls is the edges. By using an edge-only case, the phone is adequately protected. Since the back is left exposed, it doesn’t add thickness to the phone, and the weight remains relatively light. The grip is excellent. Of course, overall protection is not as good as a full coverage case. If you end up damaging the back of your phone by using an edge-only case, don’t blame me for not warning you.

Fourth: Core requirement is personalization.

Regarding this aspect, I don’t have many specific recommendations. The bottom line is to buy the case that you like. For example, I have purchased a custom case for a certain game.

In summary:

When choosing a phone case, I recommend considering both grip and protection because a phone is a tool that you hold in your hand for a long time. These two requirements are the most basic and essential. There is a saying in the industry that carbon fiber (kevlar) cases are the best forever, and I agree with this statement. Apart from being expensive and having a limited range of styles, there really isn’t anything wrong with them. When you use a kevlar case, the grip is often better than holding a naked phone. Those who have used it know.
